Help us help your students

Every year we encourage girls in sixth through eighth grades to join us for a half-day conference to learn about math-, science-, and technology-based professions that real women have. The purpose of the conference is to take topics that can often become boring and stifling and turn them into something fun though still educational. We hope that our conference will help the girls to see the advantages of being familiar with math and science and inspire them to excel in the classroom.

The girls attend 3 sessions of their choice and then watch a Mainstage (keynote) presentation. We give them a bag with miscellaneous goodies like pens, paper, highlighters with a map of campus and their session assignments. After the Mainstage we typically give away donated prizes, such as posters and gift certificates. Last year an iPod Shuffle was donated to be given away... That was one happy girl.

The area where our committee needs the most assistance is getting the word out to the students. We pass out brochures and posters to schools, libraries and public places. With the support of everyone in a school district we could reach many more girls.
